Such a great post! I don't think I've ever stayed engaged enough to read to the very last word on a single post by anyone (ever!) 🙌🏼

Thank you for this great post and all the best for 2024! When I released my app in the App Store (or especially the Google Play Store) I was also surprised about how much hate you get in the reviews about the app only being 90% free and not 100% and that your only goal is to get as much money as possible. The truth couldn't be further away but that's simply not what these people see because Facebook, Google, Instagram etc. earn tons of money, so every digital startup will automatically do so too. I also learned that arguing with these people won't help you at all but since a rating in the App Store with 1 star hurts quite a lot, I started to use the reply function to advertise for the app and why it's worth.

"Don’t be a part of the hate bandwagon. It’s not worth it." Couldn't agree more. All the best to you! Manuel

Thanks, Manuel. I feel you.

For some reason, there's always a segment of people who look down upon professionals trying to make honest money and consider it as an insult to their "privilege". They feel they're entitled to have everything for free. Turn the tables and you'll find that they'll bleed the same capitalist blood that they accuse others of carrying.

I agree that sometimes it's hard to stay quiet as online silence, especially in reviews, is equated with guilt. But engaging in a debate with them is futile as they'll keep putting forth arguments that rest on baseless speculation.

Hate only sets everyone back. I hope 2024 can be the year when we try love and tolerance for a change.

All the best with your app. Here's to a brighter, prosperous 2024.

"They feel they're entitled to have everything for free." Exactly that's what I recognized so often as well. Probably because a lot is "free" already and big tech companies earn their money around that but that's simply not possible for every small startup.

What I learned in 2023 is that it doesn't matter for these users if you take money and how much you take. These people will still complain. What you highly benefit from with a higher price though is super satisfied customers who use your product even more and you finally can tread like they are Premium because you have the financial resources, making them even happier and creating a real win-win.

All the best to you as well and for BPL in 2024!
